Description

“Come along!” calls Willi Basalt, your little hiking guide, waving as he speaks. “We’re going to explore the history of the Eifel on foot—it’s going to be exciting!”

In Bodenbach, two of the History Trail’s loop trails intersect: “Peace, Forest, and Chapel” and “The Ancient Romans and the Cultic Celts.” Visitors can look forward to seeing, for example, a quarry and a so-called *villa rustica*—a 2nd-century Roman farmstead. “A hearty sip of Bodenbach Drees after the tour will give us the energy we need for more hikes,” promises Willi Basalt.

Bongard lies along the “The Ancient Romans and the Cultic Celts” loop trail. Here stands the St. Agatha branch church, one of the most impressive sacred buildings in the entire Eifel region. The historic half-timbered houses, which reflect the region’s typical architectural style, are also picturesque. “On this trail, you’ll pass through the forest at Barsberg, which is shrouded in many stories,” explains Willi Basalt with a knowing smile.
